Welcome to the 28th Season of the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival

Despite the challenging pandemic, the Festival remains committed to our mission of bringing together the world’s finest musicians to offer extraordinary musical events. For summer 2021, we balanced health and safety imperatives with audience feedback indicating a growing willingness to gather in-person, under the right circumstances. Importantly, Festival musicians are eager to share their passion and artistry with you.

This year we will present two extraordinary summer festivals! First, June 13-20 for a week of in-person, outdoor performances under a tent on the beautiful campus of Temple Beth El. Next, July 10-24, we present two weeks of virtual concerts in the comfort of your home. Each virtual concert will include exclusive content and additional concerts beyond the June Festival.

The full 2021 Festival performance schedule is listed below. Ticket sales began May 14. No tickets will be sold at the door. Start your ticket purchase for June in-person concerts by clicking Read More for the concert desired and then selecting available seats on the chart.

If you need help placing a ticket order, call 248-559-2097 on Tuesdays and Thursday 11 AM – 3 PM or leave a message at any time.

2020 Virtual Program Book

Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings and the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival are thrilled to present an outdoor, socially distanced performance of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer John Luther Adams’ Sila on August 29th at 6:00 p.m. The event will be held at Cranbrook in partnership with Cranbrook Center for Collections and Research. Doug Perkins, an accomplished authority on Sila and musical director for the premiere performance at Lincoln Center, will lead our presentation. The health and safety of patrons, musicians and staff is our top priority. The Michigan restriction on outdoor gatherings is currently 100 people. With 32 musicians, conductor and camera crew, there will only be 60 audience tickets available. Event attendees will be spaced 10-15 feet apart, sitting in 12-foot squares spaced six feet apart. Each square can accommodate one to four people who are isolating together (see diagram below). In addition, everyone will be required to wear face masks for the duration of the program.

This concert is sponsored by Blair, Geheb, Lentz, Winters & Nathan, Reitelman, Safford, Throop.

Major support for our 2020 Virtual Festival provided by Edw. C. Levy Co. and Plante Moran.
