Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival recently presen Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival recently presented "Sila: The Breath of the World," a work by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer John Luther Adams, performed by Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings. "Sila" is one of several compositions by Adams that is meant to be performed in large outdoor spaces, making them ideally suited for pandemic repertoire. NPR recently highlighted how this has been a booming year for Adams.

A wonderful audio and video recording of the August Festival's "Sila" performance was produced, capturing in an artistic way what it felt like to be dispersed widely through the three-acre Quad at Cranbrook, surrounded by 32 musicians, Eliel Saarinen architecture, wind blowing in the trees and an occasional bird singing. The premiere of that video release will be announced by the Festival shortly.
