Today we'd like to honor the life of iconic textil Today we'd like to honor the life of iconic textile designer Ruth Adler Schnee, who passed away at age 99 on January 5th at her home in Colorado Springs. Schnee was a founding member of our Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival and served on our board for many years.

Schnee studied fashion design at Cass Technical High School and interior architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design. The designer earned an MFA in design from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1946 and made history by being one of the first women at the school to receive this type of degree.

Her modernist textile designs played a key role in ushering in an entire movement to Michigan. The iconic designer's career spanned more than seven decades, and she was still working late into her 90s. In 2015, the Kresge Foundation named her its Eminent Artist.
