Born in Rockford, IL in 1936, Nan attended the Villa de Chantal High School in Rock Island, IL, followed by St. Ambrose College in Davenport, IA. She pursued her lifelong passion of music at the Chicago Cosmopolitan School of Music. For many years, she served as a cantor at St. Hugo of the Hills.

She subsequently worked at various newspapers and publications before moving to Detroit to take a position at the Detroit News in 1972, where she served as a writer and editor until her retirement in 1992.

A light brunch and celebration of Betty Blair will occur on Friday, July 1, at 10:00 a.m. at the Beverly Hills Pavilion, 18801 Beverly Rd.
