Sila: The Breath of the World
Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 6 p.m. EDT
Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings and the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival are thrilled to present an outdoor, socially distanced performance of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer John Luther Adams’ Sila on August 29th at 6:00 p.m. The event will be held at Cranbrook in partnership with Cranbrook Center for Collections and Research. Doug Perkins, an accomplished authority on Sila and musical director for the premiere performance at Lincoln Center, will lead our presentation. The health and safety of patrons, musicians and staff is our top priority. The Michigan restriction on outdoor gatherings is currently 100 people. With 32 musicians, conductor and camera crew, there will only be 60 audience tickets available. Event attendees will be spaced 10-15 feet apart, sitting in 12-foot squares spaced six feet apart. Each square can accommodate one to four people who are isolating together (see diagram below). In addition, everyone will be required to wear face masks for the duration of the program.
This concert is sponsored by Blair, Geheb, Lentz, Winters & Nathan, Reitelman, Safford, Throop.
