What is Chamber Music?
In its simplest form, chamber music can be described as classical music “among friends.” Its instrumentation typically utilizes a small group ranging from two to 20 performers, with one performer to a part. Originally performed by amateur musicians in their homes to entertain friends in the 18th century, it has since been enjoyed everywhere in various forms and settings by amateurs and professionals alike. The Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival is proud to carry on the tradition of performing diverse and often unheard repertoire with friends, for friends.
