The Catherine Filene Shouse Chamber Music Institute started in 1996 to provide a platform for emerging professional ensembles. The educational program has launched the careers of many of today’s leading classical ensembles, including eighth blackbird, Pacifica, Jupiter and Ariel Quartets, Axiom Brass, Donald Sinta Quartet, Calidore String Quartet and the Claremont Trio.
As part of our mission to foster artistic excellence among young, emerging ensembles, Festival artists host public coachings for Shouse Institute fellows. You are invited to attend these Artistic Encounters to get a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to be a professional musician.
Subscribers receive a free Artistic Encounters Punch Card that provides five entries to any of the Artistic Encounters. You can attend all five encounters, or use your punches to bring friends!
Punch Cards can be purchased for $20 or a single entry for $5 excluding the Musical Chairs program.

Musical Chairs comes from the imagination of Shouse Institute Director Philip Setzer. Shouse groups are deconstructed and reassembled as fellows are challenged to perform together for the first time. Each group will include one special member and coach – Setzer himself.
